Everything just
lines up perfectly.
The universe hears your request
And waves a magic wand.
Your favorite band is playing
in the town you’re visiting,
and someone just canceled,
so your friend has an extra ticket.
Over drinks you mention
a crazy trip you’ve always wanted to take
and someone else says
“Me too!”
Within an hour, you have the tickets.
You’re going.
Life has never been like that for me.
So when things line up perfectly,
I don’t trust it.
I worry I’ll lose it
because it’s the only thing
that’s felt right in so long.
I guard it carefully,
hold it so close it struggles
to breathe.
And when it’s gone,
I wonder if I held it
too tightly.

Sometimes we don’t fear losing happiness because it is fragile—we fear it because it feels unfamiliar. I love how this piece captures the quiet instinct to protect what finally feels right, only to wonder whether love and fear can begin to resemble one another. That final image of holding something so tightly it struggles to breathe will stay with me. Beautifully honest.
Thanks as always for the time you take to read and thoughtfully respond. I am slowly learning how to loosen my grip on things I love deeply. Unfortunately it's been a hard lesson, with a big loss attached and one I hope I will have a chance to revisit with a more successful outcome this time.
